Teeth Need Extra Protection When You Go on a DietMost people have been on a diet before. Looking your best and feeling your best often happen when people make changes to what they eat. The foods you choose to consume can affect your general health as well as the health of your teeth and gums. Depending on your diet, your teeth may need extra protection.

The Benefits of Eating Well and Protecting Your Teeth on a Diet

Extra protection for your teeth when you are on a diet is important. Interestingly, the foods which help to reduce tooth decay also help your overall health. Protect your teeth by including fresh produce in your new diet. Eating fresh produce is rewarding as well. Both men and women are encouraged to eat at least nine servings a day of fresh fruits and vegetables each day. The more you eat, the more your body and teeth will benefit.

While you are on your new diet, make sure you drink more water. Hydrating your body helps you to feel energized. In addition, if you are drinking water, you are not drinking sugar-laden beverages. Protect your teeth on your new diet by drinking at least 64 ounces of water per day.

Lastly, limit your snacks. By eating solely at mealtimes, your salivary glands have time to produce saliva and cleanse the food debris from your teeth. Your saliva also helps to return the pH in your mouth to normal after you eat. Protect your teeth from the food you eat by allowing your mouth to cleanse itself between meals naturally.

Schedule Your Routine Cleaning and Exam
